Scrub a dub dub day for some of my agamas, the more colorful orangey ones are Clowns agamas and are the handsome boys, Jingles Jangles and the youngest Dinglebell.

And the lovely black agamas are my females, Gizmo, Gadget and her 2 daughters ( Dohicky and Goochy) and the lovely Jigger. I have had these agamas for quite sometime and just have quite a fancy for them, they are nice lizards.

Those are beautiful. What a nice group!

Eve, I notice that you often have "scrub a dub dub" bath time pictures. I guess that's kind of like when people often have funny naked baby pictures of their human babies in the tub! It's just such a good photo opp.

How often do your lizards get a bath? Do you just let them soak a while? And here's something I've wondered...do lizards take in water by absorbing through their skin, like toads do. It's amazing to me that toads never drink water, they just absorb it through their skin.

Since I got my collared crew about a month ago now, I've been giving them a little bit of a soak, about 15-20 minutes, every few days. I was doing that to help them stay hydrated as they settled in. Now, I've been misting them more often, about once or twice a day, and soaking them less. They seem to like the misting, and are a little ambivalent about the soaking. Maybe I need a bigger, more inviting tub.

I love your pics!

Thanks,

John (Hayseed)

Thanks John, :0) I take some bath time photos because sometimes I have a bunch of lizards all in one tub looks crazy, hehehe, ( they are already washed and dryed but waiting for their cages to be cleaned and ready!

I had a bad year last year after I was sent some lizards that were harboring the dreaded snake mites, I had used some OTC mite spray on the newcomers and thought all was peachy,

About 2 months later I found my entire reptile room/ collection had them, it was a MASSIVE undertaking as I not only have many many lizards , different species, but I had some that free roamed as well which meant the entire room had to be dismantled and treated. Anyway it took many months.

Now my practices and my keeping methods have changed drastically. Cage cleaning/ and washing/ checking of EACH lizard weekly. Especially when new wild caughts come in, even though they are seperate, I'm very watchful of everyone. Very disiplined in cleaning/ checking.

*** A little CAUTION and Extra TIME, saves LIVES and and My SANITY.

As far as your question, lizards absorb "some" water I have heard, but not really enough to keep them really hydrated, that must be done through getting most of the liquids INTO them via mouth. Otherwords not like frogs. I have never misted any of my collareds in over 10 years as far as to hydrate them. ONLY do it if I see them shedding a large hunk of skin , I will mist to help them get it off faster.
