Humid Hide Questions

geekgrl72 Sep 05, 2003 10:08 AM

Once I found a page somewhere that gave dimensions for the opening of a humid hide and some other tips about what should be used, but I can't find it now. So I was hoping that someone could give me some tips. I have a Glad container that I want to use but it's clear, so it won't be dark for my leo. Does that matter? He has his dark hide on the cold side for during the day.

I just use rubbermaid containers, they are clear but not completely translucent, You should fill up your humid hides with substrate such as peat moss or vermiculite. Moisten it up once a week and they should be fine. Check out my care section on my site, It explains how I make my humid hides.

I use clear plastic soup containers from restaurant carryout. I was worried about the clarity too, but I don't think it really makes a difference because the humidity fogs up the plastic anyway.

There's no exact size to cut the hole. You want it to be as small as you can get it so it keeps the warm air inside, but you also want it to be big enough to let your leo get in comfortably.
