I'm a python man, so.....

I picked up a mate for my brazilian at Daytona. Both are about 4' long. Is this a viable size for breeding this year, or do I wait until next year? Good body weight on both, but not heavy. Female is about 3 yrs old.

Welcome to the forum. Females need to be around 5.5 feet long and weigh 3.5 pounds to breed. Males can be smaller, perhaps just under 5 feet and 1.75 pounds. Some will reproduce for first time at 3 years of age and some others a year later.
Good Luck,
Jeff

Congrats on the new acquisition. And welcome to the forum!!!!

Like Jeff already said three (2 1/2) is a minimum for both females and males. I've never had a male successfully breed any younger. I go with 1.5KG as a minimum weight on the female which is 3.3 pounds. I've heard 3 minimum with 3 1/2 better. I like grams so 1.5KG is a nice round number.

And yeah, some at that age and weight will not take.

Of course that's 1.5KG at normal weight distribution, not a overfed, fat female.

Female is 2lbs, 8 oz. Male is a bit over 3 lbs...and "ouch" is in shed and not happy. My experience nears ago with columbians was that they were not to be trusted, biting-wise.

Bugger nailed me
