is brumation critical?

geckoejon Sep 05, 2008 08:38 PM

hello, i'm looking for some feedback and possibly personal experience in breeding brooksi w/out cooling them. is it possible to get decent viable clutches?

i have a pair of ws ax brooksi that will be ready to breed in the spring, but don't have a whole room to work with at the moment. i am debating on making a homemade brumation chamber out of a wine cooler of fridge, but would rather not for just one pair if it's possible to work around it. by next year i should be in a larger place plus have another pair of breedable size.

any advice and feedback please? thanks...

No, brumation is not critical. It would be useful to have a light cycle though (less hours of daylight in the winter, increasing to more in the summer). This will trigger the snakes to breed in the spring.

hmm... i hadn't really thought about the lighting cycle. thanks for that hint. maybe that is why my bulls went into breeding mode this past spring without any cooling. i have a sliding glass door in my snake room. it has curtains but still gets natural light. maybe with the natural changing... you've given me something else to consider... thnaks...
