Striped king snakes

Dave15run Sep 05, 2008 10:25 PM

I was talking with Tom ( Nokturnel Tom ) at the Austin show last weekend. I told him that I have been looking for a nice striped king and he told me that they seem to be harder to find this year. He mentioned that many people were looking for them at Daytona. What do you guys (and gals) think? Are they harder to find this year? They have been for me.

I had no problem finding this one. It was under a carpet in San Diego county in March 2006. LOL

That is the finest looking striper I have ever seen. I am green with envy. I guess it is more like a Central and Eastern US drought. I would be helpful to get more comments.

I have talked with one breeder after another who have classified ads. When I get their reply they tell me that they have sold out. I could name the breeders, but think I am not supposed to mention it. My favorite snake of all time looked just like your snake. I was about 12 and the snake escaped. I have never seen another like it.

That is a very nice stripe on that snake. Looks almost like a gold chain.

Yet again your post doesn't come close to this topic. The year is 2008 not 2006.

Don't you have a book to write about green iguana's or brown anoles?

Oh, did he say 2008, I get sooo confused. I fell down the other day and my shoe came off...

I finished those two books. They are available only on Mars.

Naw, I was just trying to show off my best striper. heh heh You don't see them that nice every day.

I have been seeing a lot of them here on the West coast at shows etc. Did you see Shannons' "locality king" post a few weeks back? He posted some killer locality photos. vic h.

There are a few around...Mine went quick even before I looked them over.
They weren't anything like this guy, however,

that I considered one of my best ever.
(even w/ a fly!)

Very nice, Mark. I actually have no idea what is available in the marketplace. I jus' ketch 'em. I know, the Eastern guys can't just run to San Diego in the spring and do that, but we can't go to SC every spring and see Easterns either, or to FL and see floridana.

....any like this???

Note the stripe through the eye. And the different shade of "white" on the dorsal vs. side stripes..
From a "banana" (Newport?) type x melanistic type.

That exact "look" does not occur in the wild, but I found one that looks close (has side stripes). We call those "Triple Stripers."

CrimsonKing Sep 07, 2008 09:43 PM

Ya mean my sweater boxes ain't like "in the wild"??..
What? Did you write a book or somethin'?
