What is a blackbelly? Is it another name for a black pastel?
No, its not another name for a black pastel.
And for some reason BB's are taboo to ask about. Those that "KNOW" what a BB is, are as elusive as BB's are. As a matter of fact, im willing to bet that this will be ONLY one of POSSIBLY 3 replies that you'll get. For some reason EVERYONE wants to keep them hush hush for a while prior to them exploiting the BB's
Here is a pic of what i HOPE to prove to be a BB.

I believe blackbellies were first produced by Ian G. They pretty much have black lines/speckles running down their bellies. I don't think they are very much to look at from what I've seen. However, if you combine them with a pastel, you get this amazingly bright yellow(much brighter than any pastel I've seen) snake called a yellow jacket. Ian G. was also the first to produce the yellow jacket as far as I know.
I've also heard that the black bellies are co-dom but I have yet to see the super. Hope this helps.

Black Bellies were first produced in 2006 by Ian G. They were not that spectacular on their own... So he just put them on a pastel... As most of you know the Cross - Pastel x Blackbelly (Yellow Jacket) came out amazing. The Yellow Jacket is one of the few snakes that is better as an adult then as a baby (ethe other are Calico and Enchi) They look like Jungle Carpets. In my opinion they are better than Killer Bees and Fire flys. They just drip with color! At this time we do not know if there is a super Black Belly, but i think there will be. Most snakes that look pretty normal have awesome supers... (Vanilla, Het Ivory etc).
The Black stripe on the stomach is NOT the only key trait... It must have all traits. ( Hoping not to see hundreds of animals in the classifieds being sold as Black Bellies...)
Also, Yellow Jackets have completely different stomachs than pastels... or most morphs
Some pics...

Hope this helps

What are the other traits aside from the black belly?

We have a few animals that have the black belly stripe that I have seen on Ians BBs. We have one female that has proven co-dom, we have not breed her back to one of her sons yet but are hoping to do it this year. I have also not breed it into any co-dom morphs yet just recessives at the time. Hopefully next year someone can prove some type of crazy new morph from them
aside from the yellow jacket which is stunning .
