Those are really nice. They do look big. My brother in South Carolina bred mandarins successfully for years.

Thanks, guys. Here's a female that would'nt breed this year--I hope next year. She's the lightest silver phase I ever produced and should throw great young.

Yes, that's an outstanding example!. Good luck with next year.

Lloyd you might already know but if not the big female and the albino male above are the parents of the pair you got.

randy,
what size clutches do you see from your sichuan mandarins?
we just had a clutch of 9 hatch. just curious if anyone has seen 10 ?
do you find your sichuans easier to get feeding?

RandyWhittington Sep 07, 2008 08:10 PM

I've had small clutches of 4 or 5 so far but my sichuans have only been producing a couple years. Brain Barczyk told me he has had 10 and even one clutch of 12 from some of his. My sichuan babies have been huge compared to some other mandarin hatchlings I have seen.
Most of the sichuan babies I hatched and my breeders when they were hatchlings have only eaten two or three meals before stopping feeding. They also seem to want live at first too but after brumating they all have fed on thawed like pigs from then on.
This is a young female with one parent being from Sichuan province and the other from Fukien province.
