Yellow and orange

mj3151 Sep 06, 2008 06:42 PM

I was driving this morning just as the rain hit the area and came across two male Easterns about a mile apart on the same road. They were both hung up right in the middle of the lane and cars were straddling and passing directly over them as I approached. A red truck went over the yellow turtle as I was stopping to move him. Miraculously, neither were harmed in any way. I borrowed them to take some pictures, then released them off the road in the same spots I found them, in the middle of a torrential downpour. You gotta be pretty weird. They're a pretty nice example of the different color phases that make T.c.carolina so unique.

Very nice!!! Good for you for getting them off the road too....I would hate to see these beauties squashed. The rain and warmth certainly makes for turtle weather!

Thank you for sharing the photos. Awesome turtles!

I like the plastron shots showing the concavity of the males for mounting females. Great pics

You're welcome. No, I'm not a professional photographer. I love the immediate gratification of digital photography compared to the old way, and I love that I live in an area with a lot of really colorful Eastern box turtles, so I keep the camera handy most of the time. If I have time, I'll bring them home and photograph them before I release them. If not, I just click a few shots where I find them. Like you, I check these forums all the time because I love the pictures.
