Three adult and one juvy EBT live in here. They love to soak in the pool I made from concrete. The end of the pen not pictured has some grass and a few flowers and small trees. It also gets sun in the morning.

Nice enclosure! Does the pond have some type of filter in it? Not too long ago, one of my neighbors gave me a rock-themed pond she got at K-Mart for her dogs to drink out of when they're outside, but they were scared of it, so she gave it to me, and my box turtles love it in there. I added some misquito-fish, and some crawfish to it, and my box turtles love it, especially the Florida. The best thing is, it stays relatively clean in there. I'd like to get another one like it, but bigger, and put it in the redfoot pen.

I like that pond.
Did you make it from cement, in place?

Nice job! Maybe it's the picture quailty but the water looks greenish. Any shallow pool of water should be hosed out and replaced with fresh water daily. Remember-other animals could be drinking from it or taking a bath in it so it'll need to be cleaned often.

not to sound stupid, but why is greenish not a good idea?
because it might indicate the presence of disease?
thanks for the info Tess, AND I have been enjoying your book!

Patsy, I'm happy you are enjoying my book. I tried hard to make it useful to all levels of hobbyists and turtle lovers.

Greenish water implies there may be a buildup of algae on the basin which can trap feces, etc. Turtle drinking water needs to be clean. True, they drink from muddy puddles, ponds with greenish water and such in the wild, but they do not have the added stress of captivity going against them. Captivity can be stressful to pet turtles so we should try to give them optimum conditions whenever we can -that means clean water, good food, proper temps and medical attentioin when necessary. Thanks Tess, very concise answer. You might think about writing...
I will be a better cleaner now.
Mine also contain Cane toad feces.

The pond was dug out then made in place with concrete. That end of the pen is overshadowed by a large tree so the water is reflecting some green in the pen pic.I change the water about every other day.
