I haven't raised snakes as pets in about 25 plus years so I am looking for input/feedback. I am looking at the Exo-Terra small and medium size glass terrariums as a future home to a baby ball python or similiar size snake. I like the idea of the Exo-Terra primarily as I can buy all of the like branded accessories to see that it all fits together well for an escape artist. Not sure if I should go with the smaller of the two to start or to go with the medium and put inside enough small containers/fake rocks for cutting down on the space issues with a smaller pet. I would prefer to not have to upsize too much later when it grows but do not want to run into the behavior issues I have read about related to too large of an area...can this be covered by adding small containers and such to give "peace of mind" to the snake or is it an issue of the overall containment size just being too large for a smaller snake to start?
For the Ball Python how much of the "rainforest" environment settings are good vs bad? Too much humidity? Too tough to keep clean if too much...decoration/waterfall etc garbage? Trying for balance of looks and function as this will be a center piece in my living room. Any tips on other brand terrariums that would work would be appreciated as well. Am thinking that the screen enclosures would be too tough to regulate heat/humidity vs mostly glass with screen tops but...newby again so help appreciated. Thanks in advance. I want to put time and money into the setup before attending Reptile Show to bring home pet. Am avoiding local pet store($39.95 Ball Python) as not sure of reputation of original breeders etc. Let me know if I am on the right track.
