How many mealies can/should a Leo eat???

MrHobby Sep 05, 2003 12:05 PM

I just purchased 2 Leos earlier in the week. One at 34g and the other at 11g. Both seem to have bottomless pits!! The larger one will eat 12-15 large mealies and 3-5 large crickets and aggressively look for more! The smaller one has no problem consuming 6 mealies and 4 crickets. I feed them seperately from one another so they are not competing for food. I have been told to offer the food for 15 minutes and remove what they do not eat. These guys will consume what I have listed in 2-3 minutes! My last gecko had no appetite at all so this amount seems amazing! Is this normal?? I have heard where people leave mealies in the cage at all times to promote fast/healthy growth. I am afraid that my Leos would explode if I tried this!!

Leos generally won't over-eat.. You can leave a dish of mealies in with them at all times.. If they're still looking for more that means they're still hungry. Go ahead and let them eat.. You'll have a healthier gecko by far for it.

That's normal, I feed my leos as much as they would eat and never had a problem. One of my male will eat about 10 crickets plus 10-15 mealies a night and one of my AFT girl can eat 20 crickets a night.
