Contact Cement???

ArtInScales Sep 08, 2008 12:28 PM

We are using laminate for the floor of our new cages we are building. We have laid the laminate up on plywood with contact cement. I was wondering if anyone knows how long contact cement out gases? It will be a couple more weeks before the cages are ready, but there is still a smell in the woodshop.

Thanks,
Randy

I've read that it takes a few weeks for the solvent based contact cements. If you used waterborne it should be very quick.

From the sounds of it you laminated the plywood first and will assemble the cages next??

If so, that was a good plan. I would let the laminated panels cure as long as possible before assembly. Having the boxes assembled will slow down the offgas process.

Yes, I've laid up the laminate on plywood already. Now I'm working on routing out the bottom for flexwatt. Then I will build the cages, so it will be a few weeks before they are done. I have 4 cages to build to start with. This is going to be my new entertainment center. I'm building 12 cages and 2 underbed racks around my TV. It should turn out pretty cool.

Thanks for the reply,
Randy
