Throwing up???

Melisssss Sep 08, 2008 05:49 PM

Can you overfeed these guys on worms? My dragon weighs 229 grams and she had around 7 superworms two days in a row along with her veggies. Today she is throwing them up and it's really gross. I think I have overfed her without knowing any better. My frilled dragon could have eaten that and more without problems but he refuses veggies. I have soaked her today after her last bout in some warm water for awhile and she did her business and I changed the water and she did have some long drinks from it while she soaked. She seems to act fine with her head bobbing and all.

How much do you feed a dragon of this size/ I see advice on babies but nothing on older dragons.

Info:
ambient is 80-85 range
basking 107-110
14 hour light on
UVB lighting is reptisun 10
also standard aquarium light strip is used
75 gallon tank
Veggies are currently: mustard greens and yellow squash
Supplements: herpivite multi and calcium

She does go outside with me for about an hour or two if it is warm enough and sunny about 2 days a week.

One of mine threw up some supers a while ago,
From the advice I was given, if it happens once, not a huge concern, I was told to double check my temps, which seemed fine, I have not had an occurence since, My girl at just over 5 months take about 10-15 supers a day, but never more then 2 or 3 at a time.
I think that helps her digest between meals.
Good luck, I am curious to see what replies you get,

How old and what is the length of ur dragon? 229g seems small for an adult. My dragon eats 15 supers and veggies no problem and when fed crickets he eats about 25-30. Only time I have seen a lizard throw was when one I owned int he past had worms. Some of the worms came out with the pinky it was fed.

I have measured her yet and now that I am learning more I don't even think "her" is a her. I was told she is a year and a half old. I'll run and take a quick measure and post it.

that explains the weight. Is she still throwing up if so a vet visit will be needed.

I don't understand what you mean about the weight. Should she weigh more?

The throwing up has stopped. I ordered some Parazap and plan to go that route even though I have Panacur on hand.

The weight seems low, maybe its because of the size. My 1 dragon is 21 in and 580 gram and the other is 15 in over 300g. Your dragon is probably a little ill and dehydrated. With proper temps and feeding she should be back to normal if there isnt any other underlying problems.

Yes, I think 229 is way to light for a 16" dragon. She should be closer to 400.

Wow! I know they gave her only salad of frozen pea, carrots and green beans with pellets before. She now gets mustard greens and live food. No pellets at all until the order I got from LLL gets here with my new bulbs.

Since she threw up I have been stingy about the live food thinking she overeats. Now perhaps I should feed her live in smaller quantities a few times a day thinking her gut isn't used to it. I have some Nutribac that I can start her on to help her out.

I have a zillion snakes so if I should feed her pinkies to help her gain some weight, its no problem but I have never done that with an animal other than a snake before.

Consider trying Hornworms or Silkworms.
