And some hypos...

zach_whitman Sep 08, 2008 06:28 PM

Here are a few of the Merker line hypos I produced. Unfortunately the clutch was 8.1. Just my luck...

Those are nice! Is this a recessive trait?

zach_whitman Sep 08, 2008 08:57 PM

Yep. Simple recessive. The hatchlings are a sort of dark purplish and yellow, but the adults are a really neat tan/purple with yellowish/greenish bands. Very hard to photograph but very unique in person.

Some more interesting tidbits...

Where Gerold found the first snake (sacramento county) has now been developed, so it was uncertain if the trait still existed in the wild. However Shannon just bred his line (found about 40 miles away from gerolds) to the merker line and he got all hypos. So the Shanon Brown and Merkers are compatible. I will be doing this cross next ear to offer some unrelated pairs of local specific animals. They are not compatible with the blue eyed blonds from vivid.

Nice additional photo's and thanks for the added information. One more question please. Do these hypos have a red pupil like the Blue eyed blonds, or are their pupils normal?

zach_whitman Sep 08, 2008 09:37 PM

Good question...The iris is definitely blue/grey like the BEBs. The pupil is lighter than normal, but its not really red. In certain lights I question this though... I will examine more closely tommorrow.

Sounds good. It doesn't make a difference to me whether the eyes are red or not, I'd just like to see if there's a hypo out there with normal eyes.

how do i know what i have?? it was labeled a lavender but people said it could be BEB but looks like that too....
heres the story.... i went onto petco to get cat food and water bowls for snakes... i saw this snake 1/2 way in between its tank and a water dragons tank...(stuck under the divider of the tanks) it was stuck good.. i told the people there and they got it out..
they also told me the same snake a few months ago was housed next to a Milksnake and it had done the same thing but actually got into the milks tank and they were eating each other. i felt bad... told a friend about the situation and he helped me purchase the snake... it was priced as $180 but i got it for like $60 i think... anyways heres the pic...

thanks

It looks like a lavender to me. They are pretty variable. I'm almost positive you wouldn't find a BEB at petsmart anyway.

Kerby has posted a picture a few times with a lavender and an albino face to face. You can tell by the eyes which is which. I would try to search for it.
