2008 coxi update

mattkau Sep 09, 2008 10:08 AM

My 2008 female coxi that had the skin problem seems to be doing much better. She went into a rapid shed cycle and fully molted this morning. Her previous condition is apparently about 90% healed. I witnessed the shed and than examined it. It didn't look like there were any stuck pieces from previous shed, but there were a few individual scale flakes here and there(if that makes any sense?). I did offer a ft pinkie, which she ignored, choosing instead to retreat to her spagnum hide. She had spent her time prier to this shed in her hollow log hide. I will give her a few days to recover and offer food again. Thought you would like to know how things were going Chad, and everyone else. Any further advice would be appriciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the concern Chad. The male is also in a shed, but his was brought on by his voracious appetite and fast growth. I guess I can't complain about that.

Good news! And that is a SPECTACULAR snake. But you already know this! LOL

I bet you're relieved Matt---that's good news. I don't know if this will help, but I used to use moss and found that fungus grew in it fairly quickly. I switched to cypress mulch for a moist hide and nothing grows there. I like it much better. I use it for my coxi and mandarins. Here's my favorite from this year.

Good luck, Jeff

That's a beautiful hatchling. I do use cypress as a substrate(not moisted). Are they able to burrow into the cypress when used as a hide? I assume they can, I may give that a try once she's back on a regular feeding scheduele(hopefully). Thanks for the tip.

Thanks
Some burrow, some just lay on top.
Your girl looks like she's back to normal. They are eating machines!

That's actually my boy, and yas he is an eating machine. They both were up until now. She hasn't eaten since the 20th of august. I'm going to try and feed her again tomorrow, since she's had a few day's to rest. Or I might wait until I see her come out, as I am usually home in the mornings when they are most active. I haven't seen her come out since her resent shed, and I've been home most the day's since. I have checked on her though, to make sure she is alright, which she seems to be. Here is a not so good picture of her. The male is almost twice her size now. Thanks for the response.
