hhhmmm that is alwase questionable , i think you you kept them at completely optimal conditions and fed them everyday they will grow some more im not sure how much

When you say SVL. I am assuming you mean that. So the total lenght would be around, 13 to 15 inches. Then I have to ask, what makes you think thats small for their age? I would think thats fine for the age you quote.

Also, I have to wonder, considering your experience, why do you think you can do better?

I also wonder, what size do you think they should be and why?

Then your post leads me to wonder about something else, whats the difference between a petshop ackie, and any other ackie?

It seems you want to insinuate that petshops automatically take poor care. While many do, many many reptiles are mistreated in private hands. In fact, many here.

I think you may have mammals confused with reptiles. The design of reptiles is to coast(exsist) thru poor times, and then progress after they pass(if they live). Consider, this is normal in nature.

A better question would be, could an individual that has had poor support, whether its from you, a petshop or nature, reach maximum size? average size, or could it attain normal life events at a relatively small size? My guess would be, no to the first, and yes to the second and third. FR

ooohh he does have a very good point on that one, when i replied i wasnt completely considering the siz of the ackies and the design of a monitor to be able to go long periods of time in sub optimal conditions,

grayada1 Aug 09, 2005 01:01 PM

thank you for the reply, but you have misunderstood what i was trying to say. The monitor is definatly undersized. I say 6 inches SVL sitting at my desk at work just trying to guess what it was. now that you say its 13 to 15 total i realize that its smaller than that. that main point isnt its size its that it is very small for a year old, even the petstore has told me this.

second point is that this petstore is very good petstore. they do everything they can for their pets and each enclosure is well suited to its pet. they dont get alot of monitors so they dont know much about them, but they do not push reptiles on people. in fact when i wanted to buy my first monitor the guy said "go home and think about it, reptiles have been around for thousands of years they arent going anywhere" This, in my inexperienced opinion is a top notch pet store, but they got it from a neglected owner and have said themselves it is smaller than it should be.

you have answered my question and you have helped me out alot I just dont want you to misunderstand what i initially was saying. I was in no way saying all petstores are bad in fact the one i was talking about i think is very good. and i definately do not praise my self for my experience or way i keep my monitor because i have made so many mistakes its embarassing, but thanks to these forums im getting better.

well you say its a good pets store, and that they dont usually ahve monitors, and they say they got it from a neglective owner, how would they know if it was small, or even in good halth if they have very little expirence with monitors, ?????

grayada1 Aug 09, 2005 02:19 PM

k they dont specialize with monitors but they try their best to take care of them when they do have them. this is all besides the point i just wanted to emphasize i dont think all petstores are bad in fact i think this one is a better one

Hahaha

From what I descipher, your question is:
"If a monitor has a slow start, will it eventually attain a somewhat normal size?"

All individuals are different. Take this, and variations in husbandry into consideration, and there is really no way to give a certain answer.

Anything is possible.
