Hard to tell from that picture, but it is either a Northern Brownsnake or a baby Eastern Gartersnake (checkered phase)

Yes, I would say baby Eastern Garter Snake.

Looks to me like a garter. Not sure what ssp are in mass. But I dont think that is a brown snake.
