Ackie food questions

ackies-rule Aug 30, 2005 06:40 AM

I feed my small red ackie on a daily basis of 4-7 crickets, He seems to enjoy them. they are gut loaded, but what should i gut load them with, i currently feed them carrots, lettuce (not iceberg), coldwater fisf flakes and mushroom. Another question is what else can i feed my ackie, he generally refuses waxworms, is to small for hoppers and i don't like feeding mealworms as i lost a few anoles due to them. so what else is there?

Judging by the number of crickets, I assume this is a very young ackie. My gilleni can eat 2-3 times that in crickets, and they are tiny.

I don't worry about gut loading, I just dust them with calcium/vits.

When they get bigger, they'll eat pinkies and fuzzies, although I only do that once a week or so.

You can also try some roaches, although hissers are too big to go down easily, even with a larger ackie.

another question, does calcium dusting cause a problem if given permantley, i only dust mine once a week

For what it's worth, I've never had problems with it. I doubt it's necessary all the time, but most of the time I do dust them.

One more, do they eat cooked chicken, i tried mine today with it but he didn't seem bothered by it

but it will be a cold day in hell when I start cooking for them.

They will eat practically anything, if they are hungry enough.

Crickets are easier to prepare and probably more useful to the monitor.
