Ackie Handling problems

ackies-rule Sep 20, 2005 09:54 AM

I've had my ackie for about a month and a half. I left him alone for a week. One day I left my hand in for him to come and look and everything was fine. Well now he is so nervous I can't go with in a 2ft radius of the tank, otherwise he bolts and if I left my hand in now, he would just remain in hiding, what do I do

well first you shouldnt handle him at all right now all your doing is stressing him out, if you need to change the water or spot clean do it while he is sleeping or hideing so he cant see you, also post a pic of your setup, give him tons of different hides, give him dark tight spaces to hide in, give him plenty of dirt to make a burrow at least 10 inches deep, dont try to hold him at all, you need to build trust with him, these things take time and patience. he will come around to you if you dont try to molest him everyday!!! l0l just leave him alne for a few weeks.

cheers for the advice, he has 3 hides in his tank a slanted cork bark (1ft - hot end) for climbing hiding, a long piece (2ft - hot/cold end) for hiding and buried piece with a small entrance hole, covered in substrate (1ft - cold end) He then has a few scattered rocks at the hot end and a large water bowl at the cold end.
