Baby ackie feeding question

Snakeman54 Oct 30, 2005 05:22 PM

I couldnt find anything online about how many crickets i should feed my Baby(around 3-4in svl)ackie every day? Also is rep-cal herptivite original powder mixture(says to mix the 2 for maximum results on back) a good supplement for an ackie? if so how often should i dust?

feed them untill they are no longer hungry. even then i leave some crickets in the cage for later. when healthy they will eat a ton compared to there size. its hard to tell how many my adult eats but its alot. dont hold back on food while its growing.

I cant understand why so many want an exact schedule and exact amounts to feed or to leave lights on, or exact cage sizes.
This seems like advice you would get on the bearded dragon forums, those people believe in exact schedules and shelf liners, lol.
Anyways, my hatchling ackies just as the beardie hatchlings I used to have have enough crickets in their cage to eat when they want and as often as they want, healthy reptiles do not get chewed on by prey items, they can defend themselves.
I dont use vitamin supplements, vitamins degrade calcium and D# when mixed. D3 is a sterol so this doesnt happen there. I just dust crickets (around 50-100) with miner-all then dump them in the cages. Also you would be suprised, one of my little red ackie hatchlings eats pinkies already, he started at 13 days old, Ive heard younger yet.

i think people want a schedual because thats what they are used to. now adays humans are supposed to eat a certain amount and if you eat more your unhealthy. ya know what i mean?? if you eat more than the experts say youll get fat and this and that. people just try to take that mentality to repiles and it just doesnt work that way.
