Introducing new male

FTRS Mar 15, 2006 12:23 AM

I have a group of three reds that I have raised together since hatching that are all females, 18 months old. Will introducing a male to breed them work? Or did they have to be raised together? Will they fight?

I have tryed to introduce new animals to ackis and other small monitors many times. My experience on the subject is that they are flighty and nervous for a day ore tow, but most times it works out to the best in a day or tow. Do keep an eye on them to se if everything is ok in the first period.

Best regards Thomas

Thanks. I put in a male and he started breeding the females immediately, no aggression at all.

Did the females allow a mating, or did males just jump on their backs and scratch at females with hind legs?

The females were very accommodating. I'm not sure if all three have been bred, but two for sure.

Meant to say that they were definately hooked up - for a while.
