Question about eggs

Wrathraptor Apr 09, 2006 08:54 AM

I had a clutch of eggs in the incubator. They have hatched except for one which is now 3 days past the last egg hatching. The shell is starting to dimple. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and slit the egg. Any thoughts on this?

I was wondering at what temperature did you incubate your eggs at with what humidity...I have a pair of yellow ackies which have started breeding but I've gotten no eggs yet, but I have had a hard time finding information on the subject. thanks

DON'T SLIT THE EGG!!! they sometimes hatch fine a month after the first one. leave them alone in the incubator until they come out of the eggs on their own and yolk sac is detatched. I had a clutch of 4 Argus monitor eggs hatch at 195 days, 205, 208 and i think like 211...can't find my log book. but the point is that they don't always mass hatch like chameleons or beardies. slit and assisted out young are often weak in the first place for some reason and there has never been a pro-help them recommendation, that i am aware of. incubation at 86*F and barely moistened perlite or vermiculite is good for most monitor eggs. exact humidity is not really what you go by, you look for sweaty container and very turgid, tense eggs (too wet) vs. dry, sandy feeling of medium and dented or dry eggs ( too dry) and you modify as needed every few days. a lot of people say to take the wetted medium and see if you can barely squeeze a drop of water out of it....that is perfect.
