when ackies start a shed cycle....

mr-python Jun 12, 2006 07:44 PM

....do they become pretty inactive? my ackie just started a shed cycle yesterday and he hasnt come out at all today.

he did wake up and look out of his burried half log for a couple hours, but once i opened his cage to put a climbing branch in his cage he went to the back of the log and went back to sleep.

i know this is normal with ball pythons but do monitors become inactive when they start a shed cycle.

I am afraid I cannot help you. I never noticed my monitors being or acting different. Also, I do not see monitors shedding at one time. Mine seem to be always shedding some part or another. In fact, its a rare time their skin is all one condition.

In other words, for me, they do not start to shed and finish shedding in a short period of time. There are times they shed large pieces, but never all in a few days.

Therefore, I do not see a behavioral change as they are continually shedding.

Also, the reader, me, cannot tell if you have problems, or just overly attentive. I do not make a fuss over every little thing. For me, monitors are very very very hard to kill. Which means, you have lots of room for errors. The reality is, you do not have to be exact in your setups, you only need to be in the ballpark.

Besides, worrying does nothing but harm you. If your concerned, do something, if not, don't. If your going to question every little thing, then your in for a long road that does not appear to be fun.

The pic is from today, they have been at it all day. I did interrupt them to feed them. But they went right back to this.

hmm, well thanks for kinda easing my mine. im kinda confused though. when i got my monitor he had some shed on his neck and tail, then, after about 3-4 days it was gone and he didnt start a shed cycle until 2 days ago. he doesnt look skinny at all so im not going to worry, i just want to be able to watch him.

nice albigs too, those are whitethroats right? heres a pic. its of my ackies enclosure. the only thing different about it is i put another branch in there that has more limbs.
