100% topsoil substrate ok?

jesterx626 Mar 06, 2007 05:41 PM

I hear using playsand isnt good because it doesnt hold humidity well, so it 100% topsoil in my tank good enough?

How do I keep my substrate moist anyways? Do I mist it or throw a whole bucket of water in there?

What type of UV lighting is good for an ackie?

straight topsoil works poorly. if you are using store bought soils, you will have to use a mix to find something that works well. check out the soil FAQ at our site, try the Home Depot mix.

you add water as needed. that is something you learn over time. not too much, mot too little.

check out our FAQ for info on full spectrum lighting as well.

I found two landscape dealers that sell decomposed granite as recommended on your site, PE. Do I wash this stuff or just throw it in the tank? It's fine to use 100% DG right?
