Ackie removing some of her own eggs

mgraphix Jun 17, 2007 06:25 PM

Hi, my red ackie laid eggs about 2 weeks ago. I have really deep dirt/substrate in their tank and I wasn't able to find the eggs until today. I had already separated the male from her before she laid. Anyway, the only reason I got confirmation of the eggs is that today I saw the female carrying one of her eggs in her mouth.

As soon as I saw that, I dug up the tank again, and found 12 eggs, 1 damaged by her mouth and 1 bad but all else ok and looking great. I now have them in my incubator, which has been ready for them. So all seems well except looked like I missed one because later today again, I saw her with another egg in her mouth.

So examining the eggs that she dug up, they didn't look bad, but I don't know for sure. Could someone tell me if Ackies remove bad eggs or if this is just some wierd behavior since this is her first clutch of eggs?

She didn't try to eat them, she only brought them out and laid them down near where she basks.

Mine did the same thing. I found one egg under the light and the rest about a foot down. Posted pics on the other forum.
