Pair of ackies both mounting each other

varinus Dec 11, 2007 06:07 PM

I have what looks to be a pair of adult ackies. Head and neck differances as well as tail and vent. But both were found mounting each other ? any ideas does this mean their both males ?

Not necessarily. Males and females will both mount each other. It's a hierarchy thing.

I had also noticed that the one i believe to be male larger one mounts the other alot alot more. Seems like the other will scratch the bak of the male to encourge him to breed and he does. havnt seen hemipene yet but will see

When mating for the first clutch. Mounting will occur regularly for 4-5 days and then stop.

That is exactly what their doing mating daily but i havnt seen a solid mating as of yet. I was thinking on having an ultra sound or something done to determine sexs 100% for sure. Anyone ever done so ?
thanks

How old are they? Post some good pics of the top of the head and from the side. Perhaps someone can help determine their sexes. I did read somewhere of someone trying ultrasound but I can't recall the outcome. Something I noticed in mounting is when it's for domination it seems to be done in a more spastic movement. As compared to just staying in a locked position when copulating.
good luck

Here are some pic to determine sexes

I don't have a lot of experience in sexing, but I'm inclined to say they both look like males. You can see how the necks are quite similiar in thickness. If you had a pair there is usually a distinct difference at their age. Bad news I'm afraid. But they both look great.

Hey now this is a family forum.lol
It's not a topic I'm hugely familiar with. From what I've heard is sexing by everting the hemipenes is very inaccurate because it closely resembles the female reproductive system.
