New ackie , how much to feed????

sclirada Feb 03, 2008 07:50 AM

I just became the new mommy of a little ackie, he is about 9 inches, including the tail. He is a voracious eater, loves roaches, won't eat crickets, I've tried. How much should I feed at one time? And how many times per day? I don't want to overfeed him. Are mealworms ok to feed him? I have never owned a moniter before, though I do have other reptiles. Thanks again in advance! Here are some pics.

Congrats on the Ackie. They are awesome. You can feed him all he wants in the early years. Of course that is relative of course. I usually feed morning and night and about 8-12 crickets of appropriate size each time. If the insects are too small you'll have to feed more. Supers are a better choice than mealies.
Also since you've never had a monitor before make sure you don't have a screen lid on top. You want high humidity for these guys. Like 70 and up.
