males get about 5ft, females 3.5-4ft, for the cage i would use an 8ftx4ftx4ft for a male or a pair, and yes they do tripod some arguses do it all the time others dont do it as much but if you got an argus you would defenatly see it tripod, as for the bill unless it clearly states "NO ARGUS" it should be fine.

Here is "T" he is possibly the biggest argus Ive ever seen, hes missing some tail and about 5ft long, and 15lbs total, very strong and a heavy monitor, but Ive actually weighed him with a digital scale most times weights on large lizards are estimated, or in some cases are very overweight obese specimens. The female with him in the pic is 3.5ft long. "T" is an example of a former abused animal that was rescued, he resides in Tony of bayoubeasts.coms collection.

Heres a comparison pic with Sobek my female BT/WT/WT cross, the 2 actually get along out of her territory, in this pic Sobek is around 6ft 2 inches plus and 29lbs, quite a size difference.

Small monitor species grow from 8 inches to 3ft, medium sized grow from 3-5ft, and large sized from 5-10ft long. Small (ackies, storrs, etc), medium (bosc, argus, gouldi, flavi, etc), large (albigs, nile, ornatus, croc, water, komodo, etc), these are examples.

>>1 how big do males and females get.

In my experience, males get about 5 feet long and about 20 lbs. Females are more like 3 feet and 6 lbs.

>>2 what size cage would i need for a full grown m/f

I keep mine in cages whose bottom (and top) are constructed from a single sheet of 4'x8' plywood. This rests on a stock tank about 8'x3' and perhaps 2' high. Height of the plywood part of the cage is between 2' and 4' (I think 2' works better, it is easier to heat).

Here's a cruddy image:

Here's another:

>>3 i saw pic of them standing up do they do that in captivity.

Yes. They mostly do it when they know something is around by they can't see it. They stand up to get a better view. Arguses will also stand up if they are really scared of you as part of their threat display. If they do this defensively, watch out, they are probably willing to bite. They will also stand up to grab food above their heads and so on.

>>4 are they outlawed in ny sate bc of the bill

No. Fortunately, since I'm in NY state.

For that matter, Komodo monitors are also perfectly legal in NY state, but whitethroats are not. Go figure.
