Argus x Flavi substrate and questions

Skateboarder001 Feb 06, 2005 01:58 PM

I am going to be ordering my Argus x Flavi cross within the next week.I was wondering what would be the best substrate to use. What kind of sand/soil mixture. Also how would I set up a basking spot I could not realy find any caresheets on the Argus x Flavi,Do they like to bask on branches or should I lay logs on the bottom of the enclosure with the basking light over a nice size log so it can bask on top.I am going to be paying 175 shipped for a hactcling. They have hatchlings and a few that are a couple months old.Should I get a hatchling or one that is a few months old.I was leaning more towards a hatchling that way It will give it time to get use to me.

For a suptrat i would have a 50/50 sand and soil mix. it deppends on what is avilible to you. To bask, a wooden platforrm stack is used alot, a lof would work, as long as its big enough. I prefer to keep all objects in my cages light though. basking spots could be from 120-140. i would go for 130. Have fun whith it.

Thanks for the reply....Does it matter what kind of sand I use like play sand or are there other types of sand out there that they sell at lowels or home depot.I live by both of these stores and they have pretty much all different kinds of soils.I think im going to use regular top soil and what kind of sand should I use.

I use the play sand that Lowes and Home Depot have in the cement section because it is moldable (better for making burrows when mixed with dirt) and the grains of sand are very small. It is cheap also.

This combo is great for burrows.
