Thats a great pic looks like a great enclosure. Heat lamps arent cheap I agree but as the God Father said in the movie "This is the life we have chosen" .

it might just be me, or the picture, or something but your cage seems to be quite vertically oriented. unless there's a lot to the left of that photo that is not shown. trying to figure out what i want to do for my argus when he gets bigger. from reading the forums you seem to know quite a bit about arguses. can't remember exactly how many/what sizes you have. possibly email me a pic of the full enclosure? and if you do have adults their enclosures as well? working on getting solid/regular access to internet back so i'm kind of in and out right now. email would be best to get ahold of me. thanks for any help.

I wish I knew a lot about Argus monitors. I don't think I do. I am learning about them every day. Lwcamp, FR, and others here have helped me out a lot with them. They have kept Argus a lot longer than I have.

That cage is very vertically oriented. It is 7 feet tall and 4 feet by 4 feet floor space. I made the cage that tall so I can walk into it. I have an elevated basking spot in both of my Argus cages so they can climb to bask and the floor stays cooler to give them a temperature gradient. The basking spot is about 150 degrees, and the floor getts cooler the farther away from that side you get. He has burrows on both sides. When it was real cold outside I put another heat bulb closer to the floor to keep the hot side warm enough.

If this Argus gets big enough I will expand the length of the cage. I built it so it would not be hard to add another 4 x 4 x 7 foot half. He has plenty of room in there now since he is only about 31 inches. My other Argus is in a smaller cage but he is just a little bigger than this one.

looks like a real nice setup... did you seal anything on the inside? looks almost like some pond liner sticking up above the dirt. would that negate the need to do any treating of the wood? thanks again for the input

drzrider Feb 11, 2005 06:41 PM

Thanks I sealed the wood with a lot of coats of polyurethane. I also have FRP glued to the bottom which is a 3/4 inch piece of plywood. I let the wood offgass for over a month since the Polyurethane has a strong odor for a long time. I applied a coat of polyurethane every few days.

I don't think pond liner would work because the claws could tear it up.
