ArgusXFlavi Questions

maddogg1990 Apr 15, 2007 08:35 PM

There's a beautiful 3' Female ArgusXFlavi Cross that I would love to purchase. I've been looking at monitors for a while now and this was one of the species that really interested me. What I would like to know is what size of an enclosure could comfortably house one of these beauties? What temperatures should I maintain her enclosure at? What should I use as a substrate? How active are they and do they require height in the enclosure? Thanks for your help

well, they're mainly a terrestrial animal that like very warm temps, eat anything and everything, may tend to be a bit aggressive (the flavi in them especially), and a three footer would probably need a minimum of a 6'x3'x1.5'...

but i have a ? for you...why get a hybrid? why not go for something pure? my dad has a 4' male argus and i have a 2.5' female flavi monitor (both pure, no hybrid) and my female flavi will never, ever breed unless it is with a male flavi of pure flavi decent. hybrids can have some serious genetic problems...

Genetic problems??? Where did you get that from...? Genetic problems did not coin the term hybrid vigor. Genetic problems are not the reason why hybrids are commonly frowned upon in monitors or any other reptiles. And for the misled individual that you are leading: Breed hybrids if you choose... Breed pure if you choose... - Just don't ever sell one as the other! Best to you both- Mike
