l_l3lackwolf_l Apr 04, 2005 03:26 PM

Hi, yes...its the boy with the thousands monitor question...
This time, about the bark substrate...ive been mentioned by Scott (ackiesnalbigs ) about using cyprus bark, ive found a bag of Fir Bark...is that as good as the other or do i really, for the best of my first monitor, have to get the cyprus bark( gonna be hard around here:-S ).
And about feeding...do they accept dead crics? cat food(thats what my neighbours feeding his niles)? and egg? all mixed up?
Thanks for the answers , i really want this new fella to last long so im researching as much as i can before this weekend when i get him. Hopefully these would be the last questions for now, and i wont have to ask any more
Sheri

use a steady, reliable, nutritious, affordable, proven diet. rodents, live feeder insects. period. once you start varying from that, you are only asking for trouble, and it is completely unnecessary.

use multiple hide spots, the more the merrier. one hot and one cool is an absolute minimum.

all mulches and bark is not the same. consider using a good soil, it is EASILY superior to any other choice. check out the FAQ at our site for more details on these and many other monitor (and reptile) topics.

and check out our caresheet on Ionides for a good basis for your animal. stick right to it and you will have great success. listen to internet loony birds about feeding yogurt, peanut butter, using pine substrates, etc, and you will have, well, not so much

best of luck!
