BT treats

l_l3lackwolf_l May 08, 2005 01:24 AM

Hi,
Took me time to realize there are sub-forums(hehe).
On to the subject, can i feed my BT pieces of chicken or turkey meat once in a while? I heard bird meat is good for them...And s far he eats them well, but wondering if i should go on with these "candys"?
Thanks,
Sheri

If you want to use birds, try chicken peeps and button quail. My albig likes them, but then again, he will eat anything.
If it needs exercise, throw in a live buttonquail, they aint exactly slow and easy to catch.
For a treat I offer fresh, raw crawdads and shrimp.

I believe in using whole foods. With chicken peeps and quail, you get calcium from the bones, ruffage from the feathers and all the yummy nutrients in the innards. I could be wrong, but I don't know of a better supply for D3 than and othe vitamins than whole animal guts. The liver is good for them.
And best of all, it taste like chicken.

The meat that we eat tends to be processed to the point that all the real nutrients are gone, so it's not really good to feed to a monitor. If you want to feed them raw meat, feed them the San Diego Zoo receipe.

BTW, Kap, are you feeding them live crawdads and shrimp or ones from the frozen section at Kroger? If they are live, where are you getting them from?

I know people will find this hard to believe, but, I have friends.
One friend breeds and raises crawdads for the local baitshops. He keeps everything clean and raises some monsters. I do not buy them from the baitstore, some never if ever clean their tanks.
My wife has a realitive in the shrimping bussiness, we get bags and bags of fresh shrimp straight off the boat.
I don't see why you couldn't use store bought, just check the ingredients and make sure they aren't full of salt and other stuff.

Y halo thar "Bubba"! lol Yeah, none of my baitstores sell live crawdads or shrimp and wild caught crawdads prolly aren't the best I went to Kroger just a min ago and baught some frozen shrimp to see how they work out.
