Bad husbandry case

l_l3lackwolf_l Jun 09, 2005 10:51 AM

Ok...i might have had a bad husbandry prob in the past (gettng better...i promise), but a friend of mine has a BT too but is giving the worst husbandry i ever seen. Just because the V. Albigularis are basically from Savnnas-Deserts doesnt make them not need water everyday. Well, he thinks they need water every week only...."PEEEP" wrong. Consequences, his monitor is dehydrated, not wanting to eat, and under a vet treatment with medics, i dont remember the names, and diarrea . He said, he thinks the monitor started probleming a week ago. If he has any chance of living (?) i might make him sell him to me if possible....Poor guy (monitor).

Sadly, this is how most monitors end up and eventually die. Dehydration is a snow-ball effect - first one system (kidneys), then another, and another malady pop up when dehydration occurs. Many animals, including monitors can bounce back quickly from dehydration, but if tissue/organ damage is done, this may not return, depending on how long damage was/is done.

White-throat monitors, like V. prasinus I think, get a lot of their water from their food/prey items.

Good Luck to Both of you and your albigularis'
