BT cage expansion description

l_l3lackwolf_l Jun 20, 2005 11:21 AM

Heya,
Long time no post Just giving details of what Godzilla´s new cage gonna be like, in case im missing anything.
Its a 5 foot long cage, all glass, no lighting because half his setup will get natural sun light. A exo-terra X-large den, exo-terra large water dish, normal heat rock, a fat and long piece of driftwood throughout half the cage, substrate coconut fiber like always. Oh and ventilation by the sides and 2 thermometers (far cold and far hot side).
Anything missing, let me know...ill post pics once i get it finished, pictured and scanned
Cheers,
Sheri

I'm not touching this with a 10 ft pole, I already see some mistakes that I'll leave for some more experianced keepers cause I'm not really one to tell another rookie how to set up/build his/her cage.

But I'll suggest to leave the heat rocks at the pet stores and out of your cages.

I don't understand this part.
"no lighting because half his setup will get natural sun light."
Is the sunlight going to be shining through the glass?
This will make one hot cage.
What will you use for basking?
Also, 5 feet is kinda of small for an albig. It needs to be bigger. 4X8X4 should be the minimun size, but I would recommend bigger.
Ditch the heat rock or cut the cord and use it for cage decoration.
Here is a pic of my male in his cage.

Ok ok...my fault i didnt mention this cage is still temporary since the Albig is still a newborn (less than 1/2 meter). Also the heat rock did not come from the pet store, it came from the countryside...Its a normal plane ceramic-type rock, not a cabled over-heating "toy" rock.
About the sun, even if its outside in the air, it would be over heated? i mean, not like hes gonna be in a stuffy room. Then in winter ill bring him back in and set up a bulb, but if i do both...Spains heat and heat producing bulb would kill the creature (experienced in this case).

My concern is the all glass cage and it being in the sun.
I will try this as an example.
Go to your car, crack the windows to allow ventilation. Now set a thermometer in the car while it sits in the sun for a few hours.
I just see it getting extremely hot.
I know you are just wanting a happy healthy lizard, I would hate to have you cook it.
