Might get a black throat monitor

Boaguy216 Jul 02, 2005 09:48 PM

I'm thinking of getting a black throat monitor. Probably from pro exotics. I would build it an 8ft Longx4ft Widex4ft Tall enclosure. The dirt would be about two feet in height. He would have a basking area with a temp of about 130-140 degrees. The normal(non basking) temps would be 75-85. Does this sound right? There would be a UVB and a heat lamp with some heat pads. I would feed him/her crickets with miner-all 4-5 times a week and some mice one day with some ground turkey another. Is this ok? Would it ok to substitute some other things in for crickets on some days for variety? Some possibilities I thought of were meal worms, wax worms, fruit flies, and night crawlers. Are those safe/nutritous enough? Thank you for your time.

Sounds like you might be on the right track but you might go a bit bigger on the cage. fruit flys are probably to small but a black throat (healthy ones) will usualy eat anything smaller than them.

Thank you glad I got it right. Oh and the cage may be up to seven feet wide now. Found out I had more room than I thought. So its gonna be 8ft long-7ft wide- 4 feet tall. And no fruit flies! lol
