BT Cold

l_l3lackwolf_l Jul 30, 2005 04:32 PM

Ok...seeing my albig with mucus coming out from the nose, guess it means, hes got a cold (heard monitors get cold very easily) guess its because i normally leave the window of the room the cages are in open so that air can circulate, but didnt noticed temps dropped during the night and found the cage in the morning to be 25-30ºC. Does the monitor (BT) cold have any house cure, like warming up the cage? He has an appointment for the vet on Monday.

I'm guessing you mean a respratory infection. You need to get him to a vet so they can give him some medication and you need to raise his temps to help fight the infection.

Yes. Definitely a resp. infection. You should work on getting your temps right and humidity levels right. Whats your setup?

Looks like hes getting better...his setup anyways is a 100x50x50cms glass cage with a metal wirings on the top and side, the light of the Sun enters the metal wiring and lands on a NATURAL (not heat...dont panic) rock, making the warm side around 35-40ºC (im spanish in my home country), cold side goes around 30-35ºC. His floor is dirt, has a long strong branch across the cage, a big cave-burrow on a hill of dirt(he actually builds and burrows other exits and entrance randomly around the cave structure)...thats bout it, he has a dish of water for drinking and big enough for his whole body to be in, and eats mice excelently...plain muscles:D although he still has temper ah well...i have patience

Well theres your problem. Where do you live? Unless you live in an area that stays pretty humid year round, then you need to board up the top of that cage so you can get your humidity levels right. Also, you need to have a heat source with the right basking temps. Get a 45-50 watt outdoor floodlight and place it about 10-12 inches above your basking platform to get the right basking temps. I use 3, 50 watt floodlights mounted onto a board of wood 10 inches above the platform and im getting basking temps of around 140-150...I also have an outdoor cage but I live in Florida so the humidity is ALWAYS high here...

Hmmm yeah, but since i live in Spain the weathers dry and hot these days but humidity is solved by daily sprinklers. I got wooden boards ready for when winter comes and outside lamps, but the Sun has him digesting properly so dont think theres any problem there...its just that THAT night the temps dropped drastically and i didnt notice it but hes better now:D
