Field dirt, you can add a small percentage (10% of less of sand to it, use only play box sand, no sand for concrete, etc). Do not use sand as a substrate only a minor ingredient of the mixture. Real outdoor field dirt. They do not like organic content in the dirt, it spoils, rots, molds, and stinks.
So none of the stuff that places like HomeDepot sells?
Getting a truck load from a land scape supplier. Real field dirt, nothing added, but strained to remove the big stuff. Most of the stuff in stores is overpriced and its made from decomposed plant matter which is organic, they wont use it, it stinks and gets moldy.
