Well, I introduced chomp and the female, and chomp went nuts. (Chomps my male blackthroat in case you didnt know..lol) Chomp made this wierd hissing noise. It was like a stuttered hiss and he was shaking his head like crazy. It wasnt good. The female went straight to the spot where chomp sleeps every night. Chomp wasnt to happy. He tried biting her neck area and I pulled him away immediately. I tried again, and they stayed awawy from each other for about 20 min, the girl ate a chick and chomp ate 5...Than they saw each other again and chomp chased the girl around and bit her tail! I was so mad! I couldnt get him off of her...After about a minute he let go tho, So I had to seperate them. I have her in a temporary cage for now until I start to build the other cage that I have planned out. But chomps a lot bigger than her. I didnt realize how big chomp was till today. Hes getting really heavy. Id say he weighs maybe 5 lbs. Hes getting big.
Im so mad, I wish this didnt happen. Im just going to keep them seperated for now until I can put some weight on the girl and wait till she gets bigger.

This seems like normal behaviour to me, at least from unknown individuals. I would not have separate them at this point, varanids that don’t know each other and even those that do know each other will need to establish dominance. Having a larger male puts you in a good position, just look at all the folks that have large females that will kick the heck out of any males introduced. This is a much more complicated situation.
Iv introduced a number of African monitors and never experienced casualties, this is more then I can say about some Indo species. I must say that cage size and design and your husbandry prior intro adds to the balance.
However you are the best judge having the animals at hand

I am glad that you got her safely. Have fun breeding her to your male. I miss her already. My "Reptile Room" feels weird since there are a bunch of female ball pythons and not a single monitor.

Hopefully I can find what I want soon, both of my monitor enclosures are empty now!!!

breedable female ball for pair or trio of baby indo/oz monitors? anyone? LOL

LOL well Ill let you know that shes in good hands. Shes going to have a great home here. Im sure you'll fill those cages with some kind of monitor. Good luck on finding the right one tho! lol...I hope it works out...I think im going to keep them seperate for about a week or so and try to put some weight on her. Get her a little bigger. Shes a lot smaller than my male.
