SHvar, other cage photos?

modifiedloser Mar 31, 2006 05:59 PM

I was wondering if you had any other photos of your cages? Even though he is small now, I'm trying to get a cage under construction ASAP. So I need a few photos (inside and out) to really get an idea of what I'm going to build.

Also, what would you think about me building a 6'hx5wx4d cage with a basking shelf, and (heres the questionable part) and trough inside the cage filled with dirt for borrowing. That way the whole cage is open for roaming, but he still has dirt to borrow in and what not. Is that pheasable?

Thanx

Spot, and lots of dirt, about 2ft deep, oh and a monitor, when its not hiding, lol. The box (cage body) is just a plywood box with FRP lining, and GE silicone 2 in all seems, and indoor latex paint on the outside. Its has a basking light assembly made from plywood suspended from chains at the top of the cage to adjust its height. Locations of basking spots, etc are changed every now and then to give them something to figure out and explore. Cork bark logs make good furniture to bask or just to climb around, under, through, and toss around for them. Ventilation consists of 1-1/2 inch holes on the back (3-4 depends on the cage size).
A basking shelf can be good, the cage size will work for a while, then it will need replaced by something bigger. Try to get something twice the animals length or close, kinda hard to do sometimes, but BTs are large monitors, 10-14ft plus in length realistically, 4-7ft wide if possible. Ceilings are only so high, Id say between 5-7ft tall with something like cinderblocks underneath for an air space and to minimize ground temps from effecting the cage temps. Good luck.
