This is very common is waters and will take time. I know 6 months is a long time to us, though their natural instincts still are intact. When feeding they are at their most volunerable, and most on guard to predators. If something appraoches, etc., they run and you are observing. One aspect it to go very slow.....not sudden, jerky movements. Use the longest tongs, or even a long stick wit hte food on it....a long stick to roast marshallows on a fire for instance.
S/he needs to build up trust in you. It sounds as if s/he is starting to do so when you handle her, which is good. Though remember, feeding time they are naturally on guard against predators. Be patient and best wishes.
