Need to wake up this forum.
It's baby nile season, let see 'em!
Have had this one a month now, just wanted to show him/her off.
(Hopefully I posted the pic correctly)

That little fella looks nice and healthy. I post on this forum and replies are few. Maybe Niles are just too mean for most, ha ha. I tried posting more pics but Im new at this and having trouble.
Roger

That is a great looking ornate! How is it's temperment? I always wanted an ornate, but I was afraid that they have the same temperment of a regular nile. The size, food costs, caging requirements, I can handle all of it, I just want to be able to hold the lizard. I looked into Waters because they usually calm down much better, but I think they get too big they don't look half as cool as a nile, especially an ornate. Let me know if you can, I am very interested in what you think.
It is tolerant of me.
I feel I am earning it's trust in the month I have had it and am seeing some progress. It used to tail whip and try to nip me when I would remove it from the enclosure. Now I get an occasional hiss. It does what a healthy 1 month captive WC monitor should do. I have never had a common Nile so I don't know if there is a difference between the two as far as temperment and disposition go? I have seen ornates for sale saying they will tame down better than a common. IMO I think this is a sales ploy or tactic. I think it depends on the animal you get, each has it's own personallity. Maybe there are some owners out there who could validate or negate the claim that ornates tame down better than niles...?
I started with 3 and I will say they each have their own personallity. I actually have one that is failry calm but I liked the pattern and coloring of this one better even though it
it is more flighty. Once in a while it jumps from my hands
and when on the ground they are FAST!
I would recommend you read "Nile Monitors" - A Complete Pet Owners Guide by Rob Faust. It is straight forward, current, easy to read great info that you and your (future) nile would benefit from.
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to share my thoughts and experiences.
