I think he's trying to tell you in a polite way that your monitor should be way bigger than it is at that age.

could be correct. but i dont think they grow to over 5 feet and 25 pounds in under a year. Maby the length could happen but i do not think the mass.

Hi gutshot!
In my opinion(i'm not an expert), water grow up the most in second and third year.. Your seem in good shape!
I find water monitor to be shy eater when young and difficult to start, it seem the stress easily when baby. But when they start to grow, ....prepare yourself and get some wood cause you will need many to built a descent enclosure for such a beast.

yea he/she is still kinda shy. And noticed some growth spurts around 1 years of age and just past month. The cage he lives in is 12L x 6h x 6d. 100 gal pond. PeatMoss and leave bedding. Solid concrete walls. Problem i came into with what i built is i have it up in the air on wooden pads. because it would have cost me a TON in caster wheels to keep up the 100 gal pond and all the concrete i used to parge the inside of his cage. So our unfinished basement gets kinda wet on the floors when we get heavy rains and that wood sucks it up and will some day need riped out and rebuilt. Next cage will be made out of block. Do you have any other pictures of your water around age 3? Its hard to get an idea on what size he is in that picture. And id like to see where my guys at compared to some of your 2-3 year olds. Or some others people on here with pictures of there 2-3 year old waters. Thanx
