The truth on niles

MikeT Jul 02, 2007 08:41 AM

The truth on niles, or at least the way I see it, is that it doesn't matter what I, jobi or anyone here posts about them. They will continue to be sold out the wazoo to every tom, dick and little kid walking into a pet store or rep show. Ask them about their thoughts on what has been posted here by us, and they will ask who the heck are you and your forum - never heard of ya all. Just want that $20 lizard there, excuse me while I'll pick out the best one from the aquarium stuffed full of 130 of them. See, that's the way it is. You're a little full of yourself if you think you can change that one way or another. All those little niles will be sold to someone, very, very quickly, regardless of what happens here. I did, however, see one awesome 4 foot ornatus that was perfectly tame and the coolest damn thing I ever did see. The guy bought it for $100 from someone. I offered him $500, but no go. Darn, that was one cool monitor.

Mikes right, but we can effect one or two, here and there, then some more later, etc. So after a while we have allowed a better life for a handful of monitors. That is better then nothing. In fact, to help the life of one monitor is something.

So lets keep on chipping away. Cheers

Why must people always give niles a bad reputation. Its the keepers that are responceable! Period! Its your job to find out what you are getting into and our job to help at times, but in all I would say that they are fascinating reptiles that deserve respect and not demonazation. That guy at the pet shop probably doesn't know squat about niles let alone that snake over there in the case thats just so cute "Python reticulatus" Hmm .. Hes probably there for beer money in college. Please understand that they can be defensive but with proper work can become more tolerant and at times close to tame. There is always that potential though of getting bit or whiped or even clawed when something scares that tame lizard you are holding. I love both of mine and they are starting to become handleable and I do not use gloves, and thats kinda funny because the guy who sold them to me got bit by the one I regurally handle, not to say she hasn't tried to whip me a time or 3. People always talk about the bad so please focus on the good but let people know what they may be getting into. Thanks!

And although many of us lurk here and don't always post it,
I and I'm sure some others appreciate the honest advice.

It makes the logical ones among us evaluate our true capabilities to provide these beautiful monitors with the homes they deserve.

So please don't stop.
