Savannah injury

redtaildaddy Feb 14, 2006 10:56 AM

So I took out the old water dish and put a smaller more shallow dish in last night, of course he freaked out as soon as I put my hand in there. After I was done I noticed he had ripped 2 of his claws off in the process of running around the cage, no blood just where the nail would start its pink, the middle and ring finger, or whatever you would call them on a monitor. What should I do??

Tikka had this problem when we first got her, well she was missing a toenail. Someone told me it was becuase the cage humidity where she was before probably was not high enough. They grow back VERY slowly over time. What did he catch his toenails on to rip them out? they do not come out easily I would imagine.

I dont have a clue, although it could have happened when he was put in a pillow case for me to take home, and when he was first put in his cage he freaked out for a few minutes, then spilled ALL his water creating a swamp over night, its definately becoming a learning expierence, so no I dont have a clue what it was caught on, havent even touched him yet.

This happened to my Bam Bam as well. I woke up one day and he had one of his nails dangling by a piece of skin. The only thing I can think of how this happened is that he must have caught in on either the slanting screen that he climbs up to get to his basking area or during the night we he tries to steal the middle of the bed so I have to push him over a little bit. (Uh, yeh, he kinda likes to play "sneak into bed at night and get under the electric blanket trick." I didn't know if I should yank it off or leave it. I left it for a few days and it eventually came off by itself. I call him Bam Bam Gimpy Toes now.
