my monitor wont eat f/t mice anymore

ThaDragonSlayer May 03, 2006 07:45 AM

I recently posted about 1 of year old my savs bad shed & lack of appetite. He's actually doing better. My only problem now is that he refuses prekilled mice and will only accept live prey. My other sav takes the prekilled mice w/no problems. How can I get him back to eating prekilled mice?

Are you housing your savs together or seperate?
The appetite and shed problems could be due to stress.

Yes I am housing them together. But they've been together for well over a year and I seperate them for feeding. Is there any possible way that I could solve the stress issue(s) without permantly seperating them?

That is something you will have to figure out yourself.
I have had monitors that were just fine living with others.
I have had some that would not eat if another monitor was near.
I had a large male sav that would eat everything in site, would share a burrow with other savs, male and female.
But one day he just stoped eating.
I had to seperate him because he stopped eating.
He did fine on his own, His cage mate had been with him since the day I got them. They knew each other and even made eggs, which I killed. I am good at murdering eggs. lol
I would seperate the one sav and see if it improves.

I will seperate them to see if the results differ. Thanks for advice. It is very appreciated....

why do you kill the eggs?

kap10cavy May 14, 2006 04:51 PM

It's not on purpose. I have many excuses, too much water, not enough water, too hot, too cold, yadayadayada.
But it all comes to me learning better and having more patience.
One day I might just get it right.
