A friend of mine was given a sand skink from a reputable reptile store, because it just wasn't thriving there. Her research found that they like at least 5 - 6 inches of natural sand (playsand is good) to bury in. And they like it HOT! She has 100 watt bulb on him. He immediately began to thrive and has done beautifully once properly set up. The reptile shop had him in 1 inch of blue sand, and not nearly hot enough. I'm sure others can give more particulars.
Do plenty of research and have the set-up ready ahead of time!
Have fun!

Play sand is the "market" name for silca sand....silca sand is extermly dutchy and can cause blockage in the digestive system if taken in, which does happen alot. I tried it about 2 years ago and all I had was trouble. I tried it with my leopard geckos, sand skinks, berbers, baby blue tongues, and collard lizardsmost of which had gotten a sand back up in their system. Just use repti sand its easier.
