I think my savannah may be dieing

newstorm Jul 12, 2006 09:46 PM

I have had my savannah for 6 years now. Over the last 6 months he has been developing growths on his body, like cyst-type lumps. It started as 2 or 3, now they are almost uncountable, probably a dozen or so. It seems like every time i try to get a count i find another one. There are 4 or 5 around his head/neck area, one longer one along the spine, one large one on his shoulder, and several in between. None on the tail or the belly area. He doesnt seem to be in pain. He does, however seem to have some trouble breathing. When I watch him sleep, about every minute or so he takes a couple large breaths. He also seems disoriented when he feeds. He has trouble locating and catching live mice. They can sometimes be right in front of him and he either misses horribly or acts like he doesnt even see it. With pre-killed or canned food he is a little better, but the accuracy of actually biting food seems off. I am beside myself as to what to do. I am very upset because i cannot afford veterinary care to this degree. Here are some specs on things to solve some common inquiries.

Heat: Basking-120* Ambient-95* hot side, cool side 75ish
Nightime 75 to 80

Food: Mice (pre killed and live switched up)
Occasional (once or twice a month) canned dog food or raw
meat
Fed 3 times a week

Housing: 6'x 3'x 30" tall
Full spectrum flourescent lights, 2- 4 footers
Framed glass front, Partical board walls with venting
Substrate is 50/50 mix of sand and top soil

Other than lumps and behavior, the animal is fine looking. No mucus near vent, eyes, ears, mouth, etc. Eyes are clear and alert, tounge flicks normally, basks normally.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

First, when in doubt, go to a qualified vet.
Second, quit feeding it dog food.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
