How to build a large viv

razaiel Jul 18, 2006 04:44 AM

Hi

I'm sort of new (though I've lurked a bit). My sav is now a year and we want to make his new home. My husband will be doing it and wondered if anyone could give advice?

It is going to be 8x4x4 - using 3/4" marineply (as that will be watertight)and strong. The back will also be marineply but only 1/2". What sort of glass thickness should be used? And will 2 sheets be OK or should we be thinking of more of them but smaller.

Hubby says this thing is going to weigh a ton and isn't even sure if we'll be able to manouver 8x4 pieces of this wood. We're also thinking it will need to go on casters in case we need to get at the electricals at the back.

I wonder what everyone else has used. We live in the UK (don't know if that makes a difference but probably not).

Any advice would be much appreciated

Sue

This may not be any use but when i build my enclosures that are large i use a sliding glass door or old windows these are nice because it works so you can see inside and can be used as the opening for the cage and if used on top can be opened for more air circulation

Thank you for the idea - it's a good one. I'm still gathering ideas and stuff - it's certainly going to be a bigger viv than I'm used to dealing with.
