I brought him back

ztous Jul 28, 2006 05:28 PM

I brought the little guy back to the pet store and talked to the guy who sold him to me today. He said he was probably impacted from eating large prey items and thats why he wouldn't eat for me. He said he would treat him and that I could get a diffrent one if I wanted since I had no idea how to treat him. So I got a new one that is older and clearly in very good health. He's about a foot long and ate over a dozen crickets today I'm happy to say.

"Impaction from large prey" is probably inaccurate. Impaction (if it even was that) is a result of poor husbandry - bad temperatures and too low humidity. A savannah monitor eating large prey is more likely to choke, or regurgitate if his meal is too big...In your case, probably the pet store's fault. Sorry it came down to that, what's sad is the pet store only lost about 5 dollars so there is no incentive to change their practices. Better luck this time around..
